Hand-Building Courses

This 6 week course is designed to let you discover the tactile and immediate nature of clay through hand-building. Designed for everyone, so no previous experience is needed.

Through a combination of group demonstrations and personalised instruction, you will learn 3 hand-building techniques - coil, pinch and slab. We will experiment with different types of decorations - texture, sprigs, underglazes, Sgraffito and Mishima.

To ensure an enriching experience, each student will have access to the necessary tools and equipment, stoneware clay, and an array of underglazes and glazes.

During the first 4 weeks, you will craft and refine your forms ready for the Bisque firing. Take your time over Weeks 5 and 6 to explore underglaze decoration and bring your beautiful pieces to life. The final firing will take place after the course finishes. Though timing is subject to the firing schedules, your finished creations will be ready to collect approximately 3-4 weeks after the conclusion of the course.
